the total payout pool for creators and mix authors is some percentage of total monthly viewer subscription fees. we'll keep adjusting the percentage until we reach an optimum balance for the community and the company, and then we'll report it here.

creators are the content creators that post videos.

• each creator's percentage of monthly qualified watch minutes, compared to the total qualified watch minutes of all creators, is the percentage of the payout they'll receive from the total creator payout pool.
• monthly qualified watch minutes recorded from a single viewer are capped at the video duration for each video.

mix authors are viewer level subscribers that make public playlists of creator's videos.

• the percentage of subscribers that a mix author has between all of their mix playlists, compared to the total of all mix subscribers from all mix authors, is the percentage of the payout they'll receive of the total mix author payout pool.
• the subscriber count is recorded at the end of the month.
• example: a mix author has 2 mix playlists. 50 subscribers to mix A, and 50 subscribers to mix B. this means their total subscribers for the month is 100. if the total of subscribers from all mix authors was 1000 subscribers, then the example user's subscriber count would be 10% (1000/100) of the total subscribers and they would receive 10% of the mix author payout pool for the month.

at the beginning of each month we calculate the payouts for previous month. earnings show up in your balance, then go to your linked bank account.

we're attempting to optimize for quality and quantity of videos on the platform.

• by using subscriptions instead of ads, we are:
  • improving the viewing experience by removing ads.
  • reducing the amount of slop videos that would be uploaded by free users in an ad based video platform.
• by having a publicly defined algorithm, based on the amount of unique watch minutes that are provided to viewers each month, we hope that creators will be able to forecast their payouts more reliably and won't suffer from wild fluctuations due to unknown causes.
• allowing viewers to earn money by making mix playlists, allows them to subsidize their monthly viewer subscription.
• by capping the monthly watch minutes recorded per viewer to the video duration, we're encouraging creators to upload more unique minutes of video, instead of uploading videos that are meant to be watched multiple times.
• removing the weight of channel subscribers, and likes from the algorithm, means that creators can finally stop asking you to like and subscribe.
• by adding a slop score for videos flagged by viewers, we're adding a quality filter that you can adjust when searching for videos.
• by adding a large array of search filters we hope to help viewers find content more reliably, instead of relying on recommendations that are optimized for quantity of watch time instead of quality of watch time.
