privacy & terms

rex.video ("rex," "the service," "we," "us," or "our") is a subscription-funded video platform operated by Hello Universe, Inc. ("Hello Universe"). these terms govern your access to and use of rex.video, including websites, apps, apis, and related services.

the service is provided for personal, non-commercial viewing, for creator publishing under an active creator subscription, and for mix authors to create and publish mixes, except as otherwise permitted in writing. you may not use the service in any way that violates these terms, applicable law, or the rights of others.

if you use rex.video on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and "you" includes that organization.

you must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the service, including watching, uploading, publishing mixes, subscribing, and receiving payouts. we may require you to verify your age. if we learn you are under 18, we may close your account and delete associated content.

you are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your login methods secure. do not share account credentials or sell, rent, or transfer your account. notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

you agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it up to date. we may refuse registration, limit accounts, or ban email addresses or email domains that we determine are abusive, fraudulent, or otherwise harmful to the platform.

you may delete your account from your profile settings, subject to any in-product requirements (for example, canceling active subscriptions first). account deletion removes your content and associated data as described in the privacy policy, except where we must retain limited records for legal, security, or billing reasons.

rex.video is funded by subscriptions, not ads. we offer separate viewer and creator subscriptions. they are independent: you may hold one, both, or neither (subject to feature access). current pricing is shown on the site and may change with notice as described below.

• viewer subscription — access to watch content on the platform (subject to these terms and content availability).
• creator subscription — ability to upload and publish videos and to participate in creator payouts, subject to eligibility and these terms.

payments are processed by our merchant of record and payment partners (currently Polar and related processors). by subscribing, you also agree to the applicable payment provider's terms. tax handling may be performed by the merchant of record where applicable.

subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. you can manage or cancel through the billing portal linked from your account (or the method we provide). cancellation stops future renewals; access generally continues through the end of the paid period unless we terminate access earlier under these terms.

no refunds for bans or removals. if we ban your account, remove your content, or otherwise terminate or suspend access for violation of these terms (or because we determine you are harmful to the platform), you will not receive a refund for any unused portion of your then-current billing cycle, or for any prior charges. this applies to viewer subscriptions, creator subscriptions, and any other paid fees.

if a creator subscription lapses, upload and payout eligibility may end, and published content may become inaccessible after a grace period and later become eligible for deletion, as described in product documentation and these terms. we are not obligated to retain or restore content after deletion eligibility or enforcement actions.

we may change prices or plan features with reasonable notice for subsequent billing periods. continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms for that period.

you retain ownership of the videos, titles, descriptions, thumbnails, mixes, profiles, and other materials you submit ("your content"), subject to the licenses below and any third-party rights.

by uploading or publishing your content, you grant Hello Universe a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, transcode, distribute, publicly perform and display, and otherwise use your content as needed to operate, promote, improve, and secure the service. this includes generating previews, thumbnails, captions, analytics, and technical copies. the license ends when your content is removed from our systems, except for reasonable residual copies in backups or caches that are deleted in the ordinary course, and except where retention is required by law or for dispute resolution.

you represent and warrant that: (a) you own your content or have all rights, licenses, consents, and permissions necessary to post it and to grant the licenses above; (b) your content and our use of it as permitted will not infringe, misappropriate, or violate any third-party rights or laws; and (c) you have obtained all required releases from people who appear in or contributed to your content.

we do not claim ownership of your content, but we may remove, restrict, or refuse to host any content at our sole discretion, with or without notice, including content that violates these terms or that we believe is bad for the platform, our users, or our operations.

metadata about content (such as titles, public channel info, or similar) may be visible even where full playback is gated by subscription. do not put secrets in public-facing fields.

you may not upload, share, or engage in any of the following. this list is not exhaustive. we may treat other behavior as a violation when we believe it harms users, rights holders, or the platform.

intellectual property & rights

• using copyrighted material (video, audio, music, images, software, fonts, game footage, broadcasts, etc.) without a valid license, permission, or applicable exception under law.
• using trademarks, logos, or brand assets in a way that confuses people about sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation.
• uploading content that includes other people's personal data, likeness, or private information without lawful basis and appropriate consent.

illegal & harmful content

• child sexual exploitation or abuse material, or any sexual content involving minors (anyone under 18). we report and cooperate with law enforcement as required.
• non-consensual intimate imagery, revenge porn, or deepfakes used to harm or exploit someone. see section 6 for how to request removal.
• content that facilitates serious criminal activity, terrorism, human trafficking, or the sale of illegal goods or services.
• credible threats of violence, doxxing, stalking, or targeted harassment.
• hate speech or content that promotes violence or dehumanization based on protected characteristics.
• graphic violence or extreme gore posted without a legitimate context we accept (news, education, etc. may still be restricted).
• scams, phishing, social engineering, or deceptive schemes.
• malware, ransomware instructions intended to harm, or content designed to compromise devices or accounts.

platform abuse

• spam, misleading metadata, clickbait that materially misrepresents the content, or mass unsolicited promotion.
• artificial inflation of watch time, mix subscribers, or other metrics (bots, farms, coerced watching, self-dealing schemes designed to game payouts, etc.).
• creating accounts to evade a ban, suspension, or enforcement action; using banned emails or domains after a ban.
• impersonating another person, creator, or organization in a misleading way.
• scraping, harvesting, or bulk-downloading the service except through documented, permitted interfaces we expressly allow.
• reverse engineering, probing, or attacking the service; bypassing paywalls, access controls, or technical protections.
• interfering with other users' enjoyment of the platform or with platform operations, moderation, or payout systems.
• using the service for anything we reasonably determine is bad for the platform — including conduct that creates legal risk, payment risk, infrastructure abuse, community harm, or reputational harm.

sexual and adult content is not allowed. do not upload pornography, sexually explicit material, or content whose primary purpose is sexual arousal. we may remove it and ban accounts that post it.

rex is a user-generated video platform. we do not allow intimate photos or videos published without the consent of the identifiable person in them, including real recordings and digital forgeries (images or videos created or altered with software, apps, or AI that a reasonable person would see as a real depiction of that person).

if you are the identifiable person, or you are authorized to act for them, you can request removal even if you do not have a rex account. email legal@rex.video with the subject "TAKE IT DOWN request" and include, in writing:

1. your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough)
2. a url or other information that lets us find the content
3. a brief statement that you have a good-faith belief it was published without the identifiable person's consent, plus any facts that help us confirm that
4. an email or other way we can contact you

we will remove the reported content as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after a valid request, and we will make reasonable efforts to find and remove known identical copies on rex. we may give you a request id and tell you whether we removed it. we may preserve a limited record of the request and our action as required by law.

this process is in addition to, not instead of, our ban on adult and sexual content. we may still remove content and ban accounts under section 5 even without a TAKE IT DOWN request.

do not use copyrighted content without permission. uploading music, clips, full videos, artwork, or other works you do not own or license is a violation of these terms and may be illegal. "i found it online," "i gave credit," or "it's only a short clip" does not automatically make use lawful.

if you obtain rights to use third-party material (for example, you buy a license to use a song, clear a sample, or receive written permission from a rights holder), you should keep proof of that permission. we strongly suggest that you link, in the video description (or other visible metadata field), to the website or source where you obtained the rights or license — for example, the stock-music page, the license confirmation page, or the rights holder's clearance page. linking does not guarantee compliance, but it helps viewers, rights holders, and moderators understand the basis for your use.

you are solely responsible for clearing rights for every element of your upload (video, audio, fonts, stills, logos, and so on). we may remove content, suspend monetization, ban accounts, and preserve evidence when we receive credible infringement reports or otherwise believe rights are being violated.

copyright complaints. if you believe content on rex.video infringes your copyright, send a notice to the contact email below including: (1) your contact information; (2) a description of the work claimed to be infringed; (3) the url or other location of the allegedly infringing material; (4) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; (5) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act; and (6) your physical or electronic signature. we may share the notice with the uploader and remove or disable access to the material.

if your content was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice with enough detail for us to evaluate the dispute. we may reinstate content at our discretion or as required by law. repeated infringement may result in permanent ban.

the rex.video name, logos, and product design are owned by Hello Universe or its licensors. you may not use them without permission except for limited descriptive reference that does not imply endorsement.

we may ban any user we believe is bad for the platform. we have sole discretion to decide what is harmful, abusive, illegal, fraudulent, spammy, rights-infringing, metric-manipulating, or otherwise contrary to the interests of rex.video, our users, or our partners. we are not required to wait for a court order, a minimum number of reports, or a warning before acting.

enforcement actions may include, without limitation:

• removing or restricting specific videos, mixes, or profile content
• limiting features (upload, payouts, messaging, discovery, etc.)
• suspending or permanently banning accounts
• blocking emails, email domains, or other identifiers from re-registering
• deleting content and associated data from our systems
• preserving logs and materials for legal, safety, or payment review
• reporting conduct to payment partners or law enforcement

content deletion on ban. if we ban your account, we may permanently delete your videos, mixes, channel information, and other content. deleted content is not guaranteed to be recoverable. we may also wipe related data as part of account removal.

no refund on ban. if you are banned, suspended, or have content removed for a terms violation (or because we determine you are bad for the platform), you will not receive a refund for the remainder of your billing cycle or for any prepaid fees. any pending or future creator / mix author earnings may be forfeited to the extent allowed by law and our payout rules.

we may act on automated signals, user reports, rights-holder notices, payment-partner requirements, or our own review. we do not guarantee that we will review every item or explain every decision. where we provide an appeal path in-product or by email, appeals are discretionary and do not create a right to reinstatement.

users may report content they believe violates these terms. reports must be made in good faith. knowingly false or abusive reporting can itself be a violation.

eligible creators and mix authors may earn a share of designated revenue pools. calculation methods are described on the rex.video home page (for example, watch-time share for creators and mix-subscriber share for mix authors). we may change eligibility rules and methods; material changes will be reflected on the site or in product notices where practical. the share of viewer subscription fees that funds the payout pool may not be published until we set it, and we may change that share over time.

payouts require a valid payout account with Dots (or a successor disbursement partner), successful identity/compliance checks they require, and an account in good standing. we may withhold, delay, adjust, or claw back amounts in cases of suspected fraud, metric manipulation, terms violations, chargebacks, calculation errors, or legal process.

earnings are not guaranteed. zero watch time or zero qualifying mix subscribers in a period means zero payout for that stream. banned videos and deleted videos may be excluded from calculations. a ban or content removal can eliminate unpaid balances related to the violating activity.

you are responsible for any taxes on amounts you receive. we and our partners may collect tax information and issue forms as required by law.

this section explains how Hello Universe, Inc. collects, uses, and shares information when you use rex.video.

information we collect

• account data — email address, name, profile image, and authentication data (for example via email one-time codes or Google sign-in).
• profile & creator data — channel name, bio, slugs, settings, and similar fields you provide.
• content — videos, thumbnails, descriptions, mixes, captions, and other uploads.
• usage data — watch sessions, playback progress signals, subscriptions to channels/mixes, search and filter interactions, device/browser type, approximate location derived from IP, and diagnostic logs.
• billing data — subscription status and related identifiers. payment card details are handled by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
• payout data — information needed to pay creators/mix authors through Dots (or a successor). identity and bank details are typically collected by Dots.
• communications — emails, support messages, reports, and appeals you send us.

how we use information

• provide, operate, and improve the service
• authenticate users and secure accounts
• process subscriptions and payouts
• calculate watch-time and mix-subscriber metrics for earnings
• moderate content, investigate abuse, and enforce these terms
• send transactional email (auth codes, security, billing, enforcement)
• comply with law and protect rights, safety, and property
• analyze aggregate usage to improve product quality

how we share information

we share information with:

• service providers that help us run rex.video — for example hosting/database (Convex), video processing and streaming (Mux), authentication and email delivery, payment/merchant-of-record (Polar and processors), and payouts (Dots).
• other users when you publish content or public profile information.
• authorities or rights holders when required by law, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect users, investigate abuse, or respond to valid legal process.
• business transfers — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may transfer under appropriate confidentiality protections.

we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by California law. we do not use sensitive personal information for extra purposes beyond providing the service.

cookies & similar technologies

we use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences (such as theme), security, and core product functionality. you can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may break sign-in or other features.

retention

we keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. after account deletion or ban, we delete or de-identify personal data and content within a reasonable period, except for limited records we retain for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, tax/accounting, or legal compliance (including ban lists that prevent re-registration). backups may lag behind live deletion.

your choices & rights

depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to certain processing. you can update some profile fields in-product, delete your account (subject to product rules), and contact us to make a privacy request. we may need to verify your identity before responding. some rights have legal limits (for example, we may retain ban records).

california privacy rights

if you are a california resident, you may request to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, delete it, correct it, or receive a copy in a portable format. you also have the right to opt out of sale or sharing. we do not sell or share personal information, so there is no opt-out to process, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

email privacy requests to legal@rex.video. we will verify your identity and respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need up to 45 more. you may use an authorized agent if they can show they are allowed to act for you. we may deny requests we cannot verify, or that the law lets us refuse (for example, keeping ban records).

children

the service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. if you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

international processing

we may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country. by using the service, you understand your information may be transferred to these locations.

security

we use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. no method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

the service is provided "as is" and "as available." to the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that content will be preserved forever.

you understand that user-generated content is the responsibility of the users who post it. we do not endorse user content and are not responsible for it, except to the extent the law requires.

to the maximum extent permitted by law, Hello Universe and its officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of the service. our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these terms or the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid to us for the service in the twelve months before the claim or (b) one hundred u.s. dollars (us $100). some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hello Universe and its personnel from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these terms or third-party rights.

these terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country apply. courts in Delaware will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, except where prohibited by law. if a court finds a provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. you may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. these terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service and supersede prior agreements on that subject.

we may update these terms and this privacy policy from time to time. when we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and may provide additional notice (for example, email or in-product notice). continued use of the service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. if you do not agree, stop using the service and cancel any subscriptions.
